Son of a gun joins Illawarra for NBL27

The Illawarra Hawks have continued to grow their guard rotation on the eve of the Hungry Jack's NBL27 Season, signing Gold Coast Roller and now NBL1 National Champion, Brodie McGregor, as a development player.

The 6'8" wing, who joins the Hawks on a two-year deal with a club option on the second, embraced increased responsibility in Gold Coast's successful NBL1 National Finals campaign, averaging 16 points, 12 rebounds, and more than 6 assists per contest.

The 2007-born forward, in his second campaign with the Rollers, averaged close to 14 points, 5 boards and 2 dimes across his 19 appearances in 2026, helping Gold Coast win their first title since 2022.

Before plying his trade in NBL1, the Gold Coast junior represented Queensland at an under-20s level and has already represented Illawarra in pre-season, playing limited minutes against the Saint Mary's Gaels.

McGregor is the son of former NBL Rookie of the Year Scott McGregor, who played 14 seasons in the NBL, representing four teams in Queensland and New South Wales.

He joins Amarco Doyle as a new NBL1 North alum suiting up for Illawarra as development players this upcoming year, and is one of seven new acquisitions for a new-look Hawks roster.

The Hawks open their account for NBL27 facing the New Zealand Breakers on Sunday, September 20 at Spark Arena.
