Fresh from a successful 2022 NBL1 South season, The Pioneers Basketball Club Board has hit the ground running, resigning Matt Sutton as Head Coach of the OneFortyOne Pioneers for the next two seasons.
Club President Tom Kosch was thrilled to announce that Matt Sutton would return as Head Coach of the Club's women's programs in 2023 and 2024.
"Matt was outstanding during the 2022 season and continues to remain passionate and motivated for the further development of our women's program."
"To have Matt recommit for two years is huge for our club's planning and shaping our programs ready for further success," Kosch said.
In the Club's first full NBL1 South season, the OneFortyOne Pioneers were defeated on the buzzer in the semi-final. The 2022 season was Matt's third season as head coach of the women's program guiding the team to 3rd in the competition with 15 wins.
The success of Sutton's work with the team was recognised when he was named NBL1 South Coach of the Year at the recent gala awards dinner in Melbourne.
"Our 2022 roster was fantastic, and we achieved a great deal as a group, so I look forward to further building on this success in the 2023 season," Matt Sutton said.
"We have continued to take extremely positive steps in a relatively small amount of time, so I am looking forward to that continuing."
"Currently, the focus is on the development and retention of our playing group, and we will then look to add what we need around that to further strengthen our roster."
The Club will make announcements about returning players and new signings for the 2023 season in the coming weeks.
