The Mount Gambier Pioneers have added proven scoring power to their backcourt, announcing the signing of Gracie Champion for the NBL1 South 2026 season.

At 24 years of age, Champion arrives from the NBL1 North, where she most recently suited up for the South West Metro Pirates. The talented guard was recognised as the Players’ Player of the Year in 2025 after an impressive campaign that saw her average 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

Beginning her senior career with the Brisbane Capitals in 2016, Champion has since developed into one of the North Conference’s most consistent and respected perimeter threats — combining offensive efficiency with leadership and defensive intensity.

Pioneers Head Coach Matt Sutton, who will again lead the OneFortyOne Pioneers in 2026, said Champion’s addition would bring valuable experience and competitiveness to the group.

“Delighted to have Gracie join the program,” Sutton said. “She’s a high-quality shooter with a great knack for getting to the free throw line, and is a fantastic person.”

Champion said she’s thrilled to make the move south and represent the Mount Gambier community.

“Very excited to be joining the Pioneer family!” Champion said. “Can’t wait for the season to start and to represent this great association.”

The NBL1 South 2026 season tips off on Friday 27th March 2026. For all the latest updates, including player signings, coaching appointments and league news, make sure you’re following NBL1 South on Facebook and Instagram.
