The Goldfields Giants WABL Championship Men have progressed to the 2023 WABL Finals this season - taking on top-placed Perry Lakes Hawks on July 9.

Finishing the season with a 7-7 win-loss record, it was a matter of the final round of the season going their way and it did!

Head coach Sharni Winter told the Kalgoorlie Miner the team had gelled together well toward the end of the season despite a "rocky start".

“I think the boys all realised that when they play together and they listen to what I’m asking them to do and we just stick to our structures, we play really well,” she said.

“This is the best win-loss record we’ve had so far, which is awesome because in my first year with the program, we had a couple of forfeits which counted as wins so we kind of tried to sneak in but we didn’t make it.

“Then last year again, same sort of thing, we clicked towards the end of the season and made finals but lost in a nail-biter quarter-final.

“I’m hoping that this year we’re going to go one step further and we’re going to beat the top team and get them out.”

Austin Cummings finished the season with the most points for the team at 188 across 12 games, placing him 16th in the league, followed closely by Benjamin Johnson with 180 at 18th.
