The Goldfields Giants rolled past the Cockburn Cougars 106-66 on Saturday at Niels Hansen Basketball Stadium, securing a commanding 40-point victory to open their NBL1 West campaign.
The Giants dominated from the outset, establishing a lead that grew to as much as 42 points. Their efficient shooting made the difference, hitting 52.1 percent from the field compared to the Cougars' 39.7 percent. Joshua Duach recorded a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds, while De'Sean Parsons added 24 points and 12 boards. Shaun Stewart was everywhere, contributing 25 points and five steals as Goldfields punished Cockburn with 19 points off turnovers.
Cockburn struggled to find rhythm, coughing up 22 turnovers against just 15 assists. Chan Nai provided a bright spot with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including three triples. Kortland Martin added 14 points but shot just 5-of-14 from the field, while Harrison Fitzgerald contributed 11 points off the bench in the lopsided defeat.
