Gak joins the Ballarat Miners

The Ballarat Miners Men are excited to announce the signing of Deng Gak for the 2022 Coles Express NBL1 South Season.

Gak, who is 6foot 11 joins the Miners from the University of Miami where he spent four years.

Gak is a replacement player for Shaquille Morris who due to unforeseen circumstances can no longer join the Ballarat Miners. 

Basketball Ballarat’s Senior Elite Teams Chair Cameron Moore said “Whilst we are disappointed to lose Shaquille suddenly our recruitment team has done an exceptional job in securing Deng.”

Moore added “We are thrilled that Deng could join the Miners on short notice and we are excited to see what he will add to our lineup.”

Gak arrived in Ballarat on Thursday afternoon and trained Thursday night with team. Ballarat Miners Men’s Head Coach Luke Sunderland said “We are thrilled to be able to have Deng join us off the back of a successful college career at the University of Miami and being involved with high-level programs”.

Sunderland added “Deng will be able to slot straight in with our already versatile and athletic group, his first training demonstrated his feel for the game and his high IQ was clearly evident. We look forward to being able to help Deng further progress in his promising career”.

Upon signing with the Miners Gak said, “This is a great opportunity for me, my friend Deng Acuoth has played for the Miners and said they are a great club to play for and I’m looking forward to hitting the court this weekend.”

Gak will line up for the Miners on Saturday night at Selkirk Stadium when the Miners take on Eltham.  Tickets can be purchased via TICKETEK
