Sydney Wright produced two standout performances and the East Perth Eagles scored two more NBL1 West wins in their first double header of 2026 beating the Perry Lakes Hawks on the road and the Joondalup Wolves at home.

First up for the Eagles was taking on the Hawks on Friday night at Bendat Basketball Centre and they came away with the 84-82 victory in a tight finish.

East Perth then backed that up at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre on Saturday night to stay perfect on Peter Campbell Basketball Arena in 2026 with the 93-78 win against the Joondalup Wolves to improve to an 8-2 record.

FRIDAY

The East Perth Eagles were able to build a double figure lead in the fourth quarter and then survived a late scare from the Perry Lakes Hawks to secure the 84-82 victory to start their double header weekend.

The Eagles arrived at Bendat Basketball Centre attempting to bounce back from last Friday night's loss to the defending champion Cockburn Cougars but the Hawks threw the gauntlet down to them with the five-point lead at half-time.

East Perth took over coming out of half-time and had built a 10-point lead during the final term before Perry Lakes did come storming back only for the Eagles to hold on for the two-point victory in the finish.

Brooke Malone had a hot start to the game for the Eagles and was already up to 20 points by half-time and finished the game with 23 to go with six rebounds and tow steals with 9/16 shooting from the field and 3/5 from behind the arc.

Sydney Wright also produced 17 points, four rebounds and four assists with 3/6 three-point shooting, Jade Williams 15 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks, and Sarah Mortensen 15 points, 12 boards and six assists.

Stacey Barr also had seven points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, Zaya Black five points, three boards and two steals, and Aleka Kabugua two points and two assists.

East Perth got the better of the start with an early five-point lead but with new arrival Makenna Marisa on board, Perry Lakes got back into the contest with a 7-0 run and by quarter-time the Eagles were just clinging to the 22-19 advantage.

The Hawks managed to open up an eight-point lead in the second quarter as well and by half-time were still leading 48-43 on the back of 14 points from Marisa in her debut while as a team Perry Lakes were shooting 7/18 from downtown to the 4/14 from East Perth.

Brooke Malone was keeping the Eagles in the contest and had 20 points to the half with 8/11 shooting and going 3/5 from deep while the rest of her teammates had just the 23 points on 10/27 shooting with 1/9 from beyond the arc.

It remained a tight contest through the third quarter and by three quarter-time East Perth had closed the deficit back to a point, but the game was right up for grabs heading into the fourth.

But that's where the Eagles took control and ended up building a 10-point lead and were on top 84-75 with just over two minutes to play and looked to have things wrapped up.

Perry Lakes had other ideas, though, and with a three-pointer to Mila Wawszkowicz and buckets to Bridgette Rettstatt and Marisa on the back of horror Eagles turnovers, suddenly it was a two-point ball game in the final minute.

But Perry Lakes couldn’t quite take the next step to either level scores or go ahead despite another turnover from Stacey Barr for the Eagles who then also missed a pair of free throws. It wasn’t fatal, though, with the Eagles holding on for the two-point win.

SATURDAY

The East Perth Eagles maintained their perfect record at home on Saturday night with the 93-78 victory against the Joondalup Wolves.

The Eagles were coming off the Friday night road win over the Perry Lakes Hawks ahead of returning to Morley Sport and Recreation Centre where they had won their opening three games of 2026.

They were also out for revenge on a Joondalup Wolves team who handed them a first loss of the season at Arena Joondalup but it was the Wolfpack leading by five points at quarter-time.

The Wolves were still leading by five at half-time, but the Eagles then shot out of the blocks to start the second half and put up 33 points to 10 in the third quarter to set up the eventual 15-point victory to make it a double win weekend and improve to an 8-2 record on the season.

Sydney Wright starred in the win at home for the Eagles with 26 points, five assists, two rebounds and two steals with 4/6 from three-point territory.

Sarah Mortensen also produced 20 points, 14 rebounds and three assists, Stacey Barr 17 points, six boards, six assists and four steals, and Jade Williams 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Brooke Malone added 11 points and eight rebounds, Zaya Black four points and five rebounds, and Amber Land two points and two boards as the mother of two resumes her 185-game playing carer between the Warwick Senators and Joondalup Wolves between 2013-21.

The Eagles arrived back home after the win the previous night with the Wolves also having beaten the Willetton Tigers, and it was the visitors who started the better opening up a 24-19 lead by quarter-time despite eight points for East Perth from Stacey Barr.

East Perth did manage to shoot 10/18 from the field in the second quarter and by half-time Sydney Wright was up to 13 points and Sarah Mortensen had 10, but it was Joondalup still holding the 49-44 advantage.

The big difference was that the Wolves were shooting 58 per cent from the field to 38 from the Eagles but East Perth did pull down 13 offensive rebounds wot five on the way to getting up 11 extra shot attempts.

East Perth then took control with a dominant third quarter with them outscoring Joondalup 33 points to 10 on the back of shooting 14/25 from the field while holding the Wolves to just the 4/18 with 1/10 from three-point territory.

The Eagles were out to a 21-point lead on the way to securing the 15-point victory for the double win weekend.
