Deadly three-point shooter Damon Ballantyne has re-signed with the Goldfields Giants

The Northern Star Resources Goldfields Giants are proud to announce the re-signing of Damon Ballantyne ahead of the 2023 NBL1 West season. 

Ballantyne will help the leadership team to support the growth of up and coming juniors this season and is already well into preseason training. 

The 194cm guard comes into 2023 in his fourth season with the club and sixth season in SBL/NBL1.

He averaged 8.6ppg, 4.8apg and 3.9rpg in the 2022 season after a knee injury cut his 2021 season short.

On re-signing, Ballantyne said he was excited to be starting with a new team and new coach.

"I'm excited about the team - we are super young, got good recruits coming through," he said.

"Preseason has been good. Just learning all the new plays, getting the young ones up to scratch, bringing new people in. It's been good - a lot of fitness, a lot of running."

Head coach Scott Manton said the guard had put in a great deal of work in the off season.

"Not only to put himself in the best possible position for the team but to also have a career defining season," he said.

"He is one of our leaders on the court and his versatility to play multiple roles at both ends of the court will be invaluable for our team in 2023."

Ballantyne said the team will be "great" with a clear vision to push for a top six spot this season.

"We're going to be super long, athletic, really deep - we have a good bench too. We've just got to put the puzzle together and we should win games," he said.

"I definitely want to achieve a deep playoff run - try and make it to the grand final for sure and then just make sure everyone is getting better - make everyone, every teammate great."

Ballantyne's ability to play either position, his deadly three point shot, methodical decision making, brilliant defending and wealth of experience make him a valuable addition to the team.
