Sandringham Sabres prevailed over Melbourne Tigers 79-74 on Sunday night at Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre in a hard-fought NBL1 encounter.
The Sabres were led by Haylee Andrews who delivered a dominant double-double performance with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Andrews shot efficiently from outside, knocking down three triples at 60 percent while controlling the glass with 10 defensive boards. Sandringham's offense flowed smoothly with 17 assists compared to Melbourne's 11, with Keeley Frawley dishing out six dimes without committing many turnovers.
Despite the loss, Melbourne's Isobel Borlase put on a show with a game-high 25 points on efficient 48 percent shooting. The Tigers' defensive pressure was evident with 16 steals (nine from Borlase alone) compared to Sandringham's nine. Sara Blicavs contributed a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds in the losing effort.
