The Joondalup Wolves have announced the re-signing of former Perth Wildcat Lochlan Cummings for the 2021 NBL1 West season.
Cummings spent time with the Perth Wildcats as a development player in the 2018/19 season. He had signed with the Bendigo Braves in the 2020 NBL1 South Season before it got cancelled, which saw him then join the Wolves in the West Coast Classic.
Cummings helped lead Joondalup to the semi-finals of the WCC by averaging 20.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.
“I really enjoyed it here last season, it’s a great group,” Cummings said.
“To be able to get the chance to build on that this season, I’m looking forward to it. I’m excited, it’s great news for the league. The exposure and media coverage brings another level of professionalism.”
Wolves CEO and men’s head coach Andrew Summerville shared his thoughts about Cummings returning to the club.
“This signing is huge for us. We were lucky to get Lochy last year as he was scheduled to go to Bendigo to play NBL1 and was about to leave a few days before COVID hit,” Summerville said.
“I love coaching Lochy as he takes feedback really well and is always looking to improve his game. Sometimes guys who have been on NBL rosters and played at high levels think they don’t have to work hard, but Loch never misses a practice and is constantly seeking improvement.
“I give him free reign out there and trust him to do what he does and 99 percent of the time he delivers. He was top five in the league in scoring and assists for most of the season and that doesn’t happen unless you can really play.
“I remember some games this year where he would go on a rampage for three or four minutes and put on 10 or 12 points on the back of some huge shots.
“He is really good with the younger guys too and this off season has been working with some of our up-and-coming players offering advice and feedback.
“Lochy will only flourish even more once we put some more pieces into the line-up in 2021 and I can’t wait to sit back on game nights and watch.”
