The Ballarat Miners are pleased to announce that Max Cody will be joining the Ballarat Miners for the 2023 NBL1 South Season.
Cody grew up in Melbourne attending Haileybury College and playing basketball with McKinnon in the Big V before heading to the USA for a college career at Minot State.
Cody will join the Miners straight from college where for two seasons was team mates with fellow Miners recruit Tyler Rudolph. Cody holds the second in all-time assist record at Minot State with a total of 484 assists and in his final season averaged 34.2 minutes, 12.5 points, and 6.4 assists per game.
Ballarat Miners Men’s Head Coach Luke Sunderland is excited to have Cody on board saying “'Max has proven through his junior career, Youth League performances and college career that he has an elite IQ, work ethic and character.”
Sunderland added, “Max Set all-time records in the NCAA which isn't something to be sneezed at.”
Sunderland finished with “I have known Max for many years I know that he will thrive in Ballarat. He will fit right in with our group and establish himself as a leader from the first bounce of the season.”
Upon signing with the Miners Cody said “I have known Luke for a very long time and I owe a lot of the success I have had to him. I really wanted to be in a situation where I knew and trusted the coach and the Miners’ facilities are also incredible.”
When asked what he would bring to the team Cody responded “It will only be my first year in the league due to being overseas, but I like to think I can bring great leadership to the Point Guard position. I'm not one to care about stats, so I just want to do whatever I can to help the team win.”
Ballarat Miners Elite Teams Committee Member Matt Sheehan said “We are delighted to have Max join our Miners program.”
Sheehan added, “Max and Luke have a great history of working together and with great playing and personal references from Max’s time at college we believe he will thrive in our program.”
Cody has already been a part of the Miners pre-season program commuting for sessions through November and December from Melbourne and is looking to relocate in early February,
Cody is the sixth Miners Men’s player announced for the 2023 NBL1 South season behind Nic Pozoglou, Zac Dunmore, Jordan Lingard, and American Imports Tyler Rudolph, and Jack Davidson.
