Sandringham’s early season form under Cheryl Chambers is taking shape, with the Sabres improving to a 3-1 record after a composed 102 to 73 win over Melbourne Tigers at Southern Basketball Stadium.
Klara Wischer led the way with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 steals, as Sandringham’s structure and shot selection turned a competitive matchup into a one sided result built on control rather than momentum swings.
For Wischer, the impact of Chambers is already evident.
“Oh it’s hard to put into words… she’s calm, settled and direct with what she wants us to do,” Wischer said.
“It’s really nice to have that in a coach.”
That composure translated into execution, with the Sabres generating high quality looks throughout the night and knocking down 17 three pointers, their offensive rhythm building as the game wore on through ball movement and decision making.
“We’re starting to get a flow as a team and taking the right shots,” Wischer said.
“We shot so well… it was fun to watch and be a part of.”
Sandringham’s offence was driven by discipline rather than isolation, with the group consistently creating advantages and leaning on trust to find open shots.
“We talked a lot about taking the right shots and I think we’re starting to do that,” Wischer said.
That approach has been supported by strong contributions across the roster, with Sandringham’s mix of experienced leaders and emerging talent continuing to develop early in the season.
“At my stage of my career, it’s really nice to see,” Wischer said.
“These girls are just so talented… seeing where they’ll go for the whole season, let alone their future, is very exciting.”
Even within a dominant result, the Sabres maintained a disciplined approach after entering the game expecting a genuine contest.
“We came in not underestimating them and we expected a fight,” Wischer said.
“But we shot so well.”
Through four games, Sandringham are building a style that reflects their coach, with composure, clarity and control already translating into consistent performance as they establish themselves as an early contender in the NBL1 South 2026 season.
