On Saturday 27th March Central Highlands Water Ballarat Miners Youth headed down the highway again, our 4th away game in 3 weeks, to take on the Diamond Valley Eagles.
Our focus for the week was all about being a great teammate and about all 11 players bringing energy. We were certainly hyped up to start the game and scored some early buckets. Once the adrenaline wore off we got a little complacent on defence and allowed too many easy points in the paint. We trailed 28-18 at the end of the first quarter.
We started the 2nd quarter slow and at one point in the 2nd quarter we were down 36-20. However, what happened next was a moment that helped change the game. After a time out we went on a 12-0 run to cut the gap to 4, and were back in the game. We lost some momentum just before halftime and ended up still down by 46-35.
At halftime we talked about focusing and locking in on defence as this was the only way we could win the game. The team responded in a fantastic manner and our offence started to click and everyone contributed on both ends of the floor, we scored 29 points for the 3rd quarter to 16 and lead 66-62 going into the last quarter.
The last quarter had some scoring runs for both teams, however we remained calm and composed down the stretch and were able to get the win 81-76.
It was a wonderful team effort and to finish our 4 game road trip 2-2 leaves us in a good place with our next game, also our first at home, against the Melbourne Tigers on Saturday 10th April. It would be great to see our fans at the Minerdome to help celebrate basketball back in Ballarat since our 2019 championship.
Zac Dunmore had a great game for the Central Highlands Water Ballarat Miners Youth with 29 Points.
Our Central Highlands Water Ballarat Rush Youth also took on Diamond Valley at 6:00pm before the Central Highlands Water Ballarat Miners played.
We started the game with some good energy and ready to go however, Diamond Valley were able to get the early jump on us and continue the momentum through the first, second and third quarter. Leaving us with a big catch up going into the fourth. However, the Rush girls never put their heads down and continued to work together as a team outscoring Dimond Valley 26-12 in the final quater. The lead from the first three quarters was to much for our girls ultimately going down 82-57.
Despite the result the team showed some positive signs and never gave up! We now work and look forward to our next game which will be our first Home game of the Season.
Maisy Hammond was strong for the Central Highlands Water Ballarat Rush Youth with 10 Points & 13 Rebounds.
