Casey Cavalry raced past the Mt Gambier Pioneers 76-60 on Friday night at Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre, showcasing their defensive pressure with 12 steals that proved decisive.
The Cavalry controlled the game with their perimeter shooting, hitting 11 triples at 33 percent efficiency compared to Mt Gambier's 20 percent from outside. Sharne Robati led the charge with a dominant 23-point performance, shooting an impressive 61.5 percent from the field while grabbing seven boards. Ahlise Hurst added 17 points, while point guard Jaden Owens disrupted the Pioneers' offense with six steals and six assists.
Despite the loss, the Pioneers had strong individual performances. Isabella Brancatisano matched Robati with 23 points including four triples, while Haliegh Reinoehl recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Mt Gambier outworked Casey on the glass (51-44 rebounds) but couldn't overcome their 22 turnovers.
