Castec Rural Pioneers Sign Experienced Forward DENG Deng for 2026 Season

The Mount Gambier Pioneers are pleased to announce the signing of Angok Deng, who joins the Castec Rural Pioneers for the 2026 NBL1 South season.

Deng is a highly experienced South Sudanese-Australian forward with a long professional career spanning the NBL, NBA G-League, and multiple international leagues across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He brings elite-level experience, versatility, and leadership to the Pioneers frontcourt.

Standing at 203cm, Deng has competed at the highest levels of Australian basketball, debuting in the NBL with the Sydney Kings in 2018, before going on to play with the Illawarra Hawks (two separate stints) and the Brisbane Bullets. Across his NBL career, he has been valued for his defensive versatility, rebounding presence, and ability to impact games without needing high usage.

Deng’s international résumé is extensive, including professional stops in the NBA G-League (Texas Legends) as well as leagues in Qatar, Lebanon, Finland, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya, Tanzania, and the Basketball Africa League. Most recently, he suited up for Dar City in the Tanzanian NBL, continuing his global playing career.

At international level, Deng represents the South Sudan national team, where he has been part of the country’s historic rise on the world stage, including helping the program qualify for its first-ever FIBA World Cup appearance.

His experience also extends into the Australian state and semi-professional system, where he has been a dominant presence in NBL1 and Big V competitions, including a standout season with the McKinnon Cougars, averaging 16.3 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, and later playing a key role in championship success with Ipswich Force in NBL1 North, highlighted by a dominant finals performance.

Deng’s arrival adds significant experience, physicality, and professionalism to the Castec Rural Pioneers roster as the team continues its 2026 campaign.

With the 2026 NBL1 South season underway, the Castec Rural Pioneers continue to strengthen their roster as they build momentum through the middle of the season.
