Hobart Chargers youngster Chloe Broomhall is making her mark in the WNBL with the Tasmania Jewels, earning her first minutes in Australia's premier women's basketball competition at just 19 years of age.
Broomhall was named as one of six development players for the Jewels' inaugural season following a strong 2026 NBL1 South campaign with the Hobart Chargers.
The emerging forward averaged 10.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game for Hobart, leading the team in rebounding before earning her opportunity at the next level.
After missing six weeks of pre-season with a quadriceps injury, Broomhall made her WNBL debut against the Southside Melbourne Flyers before scoring her first points in Tasmania's victory over the Sydney Flames in Launceston.
Speaking to WIN News Tasmania, Broomhall reflected on the opportunity to represent her home state in Australia's premier women's basketball competition.
"Growing up playing WNBL was a dream of mine, still is, and now that it's an opportunity to do in my home state, that's awesome," Broomhall said.
The 19-year-old has also caught the attention of Jewels Head Coach Claudia Brassard, who praised her ability to compete defensively against some of the competition's most experienced players.
Brassard highlighted Broomhall's willingness to take on WNBA-calibre opposition, believing her defensive toughness is one of her greatest strengths.
"I think that toughness is hard to coach and teach. Some players really have that, and she's got that in spades," Brassard said.
Broomhall's introduction to professional basketball has included five training sessions a week alongside additional gym and conditioning work, with the youngster adjusting to the demands of the WNBL environment.
Having already earned valuable minutes, she is now focused on establishing herself within the Jewels' rotation and continuing her development.
Her progression from the Hobart Chargers to the WNBL adds another emerging talent to the growing list of NBL1 South players making their mark at the professional level.
"It definitely is a pinch me moment. It's like a full circle moment almost. Yeah, it's amazing," Broomhall said.
