Bearcats NBL1 Head Coaching Roles Available

The West Adelaide Bearcats Basketball Club is seeking expressions of interest for the Head Coaching roles in our Men’s and Women’s NBL1 programs. These are exciting opportunities to play key roles in one of South Australia’s most successful basketball clubs.

The West Adelaide Bearcats Basketball Club is seeking expressions of interest for the Head Coaching roles in our Men’s and Women’s NBL1 programs. These are exciting opportunities to play key roles in one of South Australia’s most successful basketball clubs.

The club is a foundation member of Basketball SA and competes in the NBL1 Central Conference, South Australia’s elite basketball competition. More information about the club is available at www.westbearcats.net.

In addition to the role of Head Coach of the Men’s or Women’s program, the successful applicants will also oversee the NBL1 Reserves and our junior to senior pathway program, ensuring integration and defined pathways from junior to senior programs. The successful applicants will display a willingness to work with other key club coaches.

Desired skills and qualifications include:

  • Level 2 coaching accreditation and/or experience coaching at an elite Level
  • Ability to identify, upskill and mentor other coaches
  • Experience in scouting opposition teams
  • Proven competency with video editing/review technologies (preferably HUDL)
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven results in player development

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the game-day Head Coach of the Club’s NBL1 team
  • Appoint NBL1 Assistant Coaches and Reserves coaches and work closely with them and other personnel within the club pathway to ensure program integration and coach development
  • Retain, recruit and develop NBL1 players, including establishing professional ongoing feedback systems
  • Establish and implement a suitable fitness and training program for NBL1 basketball, ensuring a consistently competitive training environment that extends, challenges and develops players
  • Scout opposition NBL1 teams and review games in a thorough and constructive manner
  • Instil a culture of selflessness, teamwork and accountability in the playing group
  • Create, manage and deliver a culture of engagement and interaction between Senior and Junior programs, including player participation in junior coaching and events
  • Work with junior coaches to develop, promote and oversee well-defined pathways from Junior to Senior programs
  • Manage the NBL1 Program within budget as agreed with the Executive Committee
  • Report to designated club representatives and to the Club Executive as required

Contract term and remuneration to be discussed at interview.

Successful applicants must hold a current working with children clearance or apply for one immediately upon being offered the role. Any offer is subject to receiving this clearance.
