Ballarat Miners Youth Women

Ballarat 86 - Altona 70

The Ballarat Miners Youth League Women were very happy to record their first win of the season. A brilliant start and a handy 16 point lead at quarter time set the Miners up perfectly. The Miners women were consistent across the second quarter as well but they lost Laila Lappin to an ankle injury after an impressive five minutes of court time.
Down a rotation the Miners began to fatigue and their intensity on the defensive end had dropped. Altona fought their way back but were unable to make inroads to the early lead created by Miners.

Annie Collins and Millie Cracknell came up big once again and we’re well supported by young gun Ella MacLeod. MacLeod was full of confidence after some early face breakpoints.

Ballarat 67 - Huma 57

On the road for the second game of the weekend the Ballarat Miners Women were keen to make it two wins from two outings.
With just seven players available a good start was a must. Faith McKenzie opened her account within seven seconds and the Miners never relinquished their lead.

Hume made a late charge and got the game back within three but a timely three from Ella McLead stretched the margin before McKenzie came up with two clutch free throws and an on the buzzer mid-range jump shot.

Cracknell led the rebound count while Collins finished with 26 points.
McKenzie, Cracknell and Collins all finished with double doubles.
It was another great spread of scorers across each game.

Congratulations to Reagan Sheehan for making her Big V YL debut and looking at home on the floor. A confident step through lay up had the bench off their seats early, during Sundays game.

The Miners Youth League women now sit with two wins and one loss as they prepare for another two games this weekend.

Ballarat Miners Youth Men

Ballarat 95 - Keilor 78

It was a great bounce back for the Miners Youth Men! We were faced with the challenge of Keilor who are a very solid team with some great talent, so it was a fantastic win for the Miners.

Our defence in the 2nd and 4th really stepped up and allowed us to run into our offence which helped us build pressure on Keilor especially late in the 4th. It was great to get our first victory of the season and even better to get this at Selkirk stadium in front of our home crowd!
