Ballarat Miners Youth Women

We got off to a good start early and then unfortunately we allowed them to go on a 12-0 run late in the first quarter which was really our only bad patch of basketball for the day.

We picked up the momentum and moved the ball better in the second half and got better shots which improved our shooting percentage. We were able to get back to within 2 points with six minutes to go but ultimately ran out of legs and lost our composure.

Annie Collins shot well in the second half and was well supported by Maisy Hammond on the inside. It was pleasing to have all seven contributors on offence and defence which led to a good even spread of scorers. Nunawading are always a tough team so the girls are confident going into this week's matches against Altona on Saturday and Hume on Sunday.

Round 1 was not quite the result we wanted to start the season. We came out very strong and aggressive to start the game with our defence setting the tone just as we wanted it to from the opening tip.

However, as the game went on our work rate, effort and intensity at the defensive end began to drop off and allowed Dandenong to take control of the game and make us play on their terms. Turnovers became costly for us and ultimately took away our chance to stay in the game.

Oliver Lindeblad and Amos Brooks were two standouts of round 1 who both worked really hard all game and continued to follow the team principals all game long.
