The Chambers Franklyn City of Joondalup Wolves are back at HBF Arena!
The stage is set as 1548 Wolfpack fans fill HBF Arena for the first home game of the 2023 NBL1 West season. The Chambers Franklyn City of Joondalup Wolves women got off to a slow start in the first quarter but secured a dominant victory against the East Perth Eagles 88-62, backed by a 33-point, 12 rebound performance by game MVP Teige Morrell.
Down by as much as 13 points half-way through the second quarter, the Wolfpack women found the second gear they needed to fight back and close the difference, scoring 23 points and blocking 4 shots in just 5 minutes to end the second quarter, now up 7 entering the second half.
Now in control, the women were able to distance themselves from the Eagles, winning the next two quarters in dominant fashion. 5 players finished the game in double-digit scoring numbers including efficient performances shooting from Tia Ucich and Chelsea Belcher. Neseya Parker Williams and Teige Morrell post their second double-doubles of the season.
The Wolfpack Men Get Their First Win of the Season!
After a first-round loss against the defending national champions, the Wolfpack men were keen to get their first win in the books. Setting the tone early with an all-round team effort on both ends of the floor, the men secured the victory 103-79, fuelled by the offensive efforts of game MVP CJ Turnage, who finished the game with 31 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.
The Wolfpack men brought the intensity right from the opening tip, leading to an early 9-point lead to end the first quarter. Jordan Wellsteed made his presence felt early, securing offensive and defensive rebounds to go with a steal and a block to help the team secure the early advantage.
Keeping the intensity throughout, the men were able to maintain and build on their lead thanks to great shooting performances by Mathiang Muo and Bryan Michaels who converted on 50% of their 3-point attempts, 7 made total.
The Wolfpack look to take on their next opponents, the Eastern Suns on the road this Friday the 14th at Ray Owens Sports Centre.
