A dominant fourth quarter seals the win for the Joondalup Wolves.

Friday, June 2nd the Chambers Franklyn City of Joondalup Wolves played a very special round against the Perry Lakes Hawks in honour of Gaye Mayger, and to bring focus to Cancer Awareness with the support of the Relay for Life Charity and Cancer Council WA. The game was a nail-biter; with both teams fighting hard right until the final buzzer. The Wolves came out on top with a final score of 75-73.

Izzy Miotti had a hot start in the game scoring 8 of her 11 total points in just the first quarter, providing offense from both inside and outside the 3-point line whilst maintaining a strong defensive presence. Teige Morrell and Robbi Ryan were successful in securing critical second chance opportunities to help keep the game close.

Game MVP Teige Morrell came alive pouring in 20 second half points, totalling 24 for the game along with a massive 22 rebounds. Robbi Ryan attacked the cup consistently, providing 27 points helping to lift the Wolves offence past the strong Perry Lakes squad.

The Wolves are now 11-2 for the season and face the rising Rockingham Flames who are now on an 8-game win streak.

The Wolves men couldn’t close the gap against the top placed Hawks.

The first quarter opened to an early 8-point Perry Lakes lead, behind a volley of threes made by Mitch Clarke, Ben Purser and Matthew Leary. A huge CJ Turnage dunk and sharp shooting of Mathiang Muo, Jordan Wellsteed wasn’t enough to close out the quarter, down 11 points.

Game MVP Mathiang Muo was red-hot beyond the arc, scoring 7 threes on 50% shooting with 5 rebounds. New Dad Christian Jurlina returned to the line-up providing efficient offence off the bench alongside 7’2 Ioannis Dimakopoulos who had 10 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists in the game.

CJ Turnage and Bryan Michaels combined for 14 assists, pushing the ball up the court and applying pressure. The Wolves ultimately lost the game 102-110 despite a late 9-point combined scoring effort by Mathiang Muo and Bryan Michaels.

Congratulations to the Perry Lakes Hawks for receiving the Gaye Mayger Shield, keeping the tradition alive in Gaye’s honour.
