The Wolves strike twice with two wins in front of a packed home crowd.
Last Saturday, your Chambers Franklyn City of Joondalup Wolves hosted the Lakeside Lightning in a very special round to raise funds for Sock it to Sarcoma, an organisation whose mission is to raise awareness, and support patients and families at all stages of the Sarcoma journey.
The night opened with a fantastic performance of the National Anthem from Wolves junior Tahlee Hall and a presentation recognising Emma Klasztorny’s 250th game played in the SBL / NBL1 competition.
After a tough first quarter, the Wolves bounced back to score 27 led by Tia Ucich who had 7 points in the second quarter. Still down by 1, the Wolves continued pushing and eventually gained the lead with 6 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter with a basket made by Neseya Parker-Williams.
Robbi Ryan went on a fantastic run, scoring 7 points in just over a minute to extend the lead. The game was capped off by a bucket from Emma Klasztorny marking the victory in her milestone game. The final score was 79-74.
The men overcame a 15-point deficit in amazing fashion.
Not one, but two comeback wins for the Wolfpack on Saturday night as the men overcame the odds to win against the Lakeside Lightning. The game opened with another fantastic National Anthem performance, this time from Ebony Ridgway of the One Big Voice Studio Choir.
CJ Turnage and Quintin Dove led the way on offence, combining for 60 points and each sharing big highlight plays from explosive dunks to clutch threes. Christian Jurlina finished the game with a double-double which included some very crafty assists.
Down by 15 heading into the fourth, the Wolves had to lock in defensively to overcome the margin. CJ Turnage, Christian Jurlina led the way early in the fourth with crucial stops leading to baskets at the rim with Quintin Dove scoring 20 of the teams’ 29 fourth quarter points.
Jordan Wellsteed turned up the pressure on the Lakeside offence by securing a steal and a block with 3 defensive rebounds. Ioannis Dimakopoulos also had a block with 2 rebounds on the offensive end which gave the Wolfpack second chance opportunities to gain the lead.
The game ended in spectacular fashion with a Quintin Dove corner 3, assisted by CJ Turnage. The Wolves win the game 85-83.
