The Wolves women team stay undefeated for the season with a dominant showing at HBF Arena for the first part of the ANZAC Round double-header.
Consistency is the word of the game for the Chambers Franklyn City of Joondalup Wolves women. Tack sharp from the jump, Robbi Ryan scored the first points of the game within just 4 seconds of play from a successful jump ball by Teige Morrell.
Scoring and defence came in bunches, with 4 players scoring in double figures including a red-hot shooting performance by Chelsea Belcher going 5 for 6 from three-point range. Teige Morrell and Neseya Parker-Williams put on a defensive clinic with 5 blocks and 5 steals between them for the game.
Robbi Ryan was super effective on the offensive end of the floor shooting an efficient 70% from the field, scoring 29 points on only 17 shot attempts, drawing contact and getting to the line.
Through a strong team performance, the Wolfpack were able to secure a wide margin heading into the fourth quarter where Laniesha Paddon and Akim Lual hit the floor running, making shots and adding to the lead.
Your Wolfpack women secured the win at HBF Arena 97-71, with Robbi Ryan being awarded the ANZAC medal for her impressive double-double performance.
The Men are handed their first home game loss
Despite a steady 4-0 start on the scoring tally, the Wolfpack men struggled to put the ball in the hole, scoring just 10 points to the Redbacks 30 to end the first quarter. The second quarter looked to be a promising turnaround from the first, however the margin still remained at 20 to end the half.
Rebounding proved to be a major factor in the overall score, with the Redbacks pulling down 48 rebounds to the Wolves 31. Bryan Michaels led the way on the boards for the Wolves with a team high 7 rebounds.
Game MVP Mathiang Muo was a spark on offence scoring 22 points on 11 attempts, going 5 for 7 beyond the arc. Jordan Wellsteed, CJ Turnage and Bryans Michaels had 7 steals between them which contributed to 17 turnovers by the Redbacks but wasn’t enough to close the gap.
The Wolves were defeated 66-85 at home, with Redbacks Tevin Jackson winning the ANZAC medal for his performance.
The Wolfpack women put on a clinic in Bunbury
The Wolves were dominant early, creating a 17-1 lead within just 4 minutes of play thanks to a cohesive team performance. Chelsea Belcher continues her hot shooting by nailing 5 threes, earning her game MVP honours.
In just 21 minutes of play, Teige Morrell tallied 24 points and 12 rebounds which earned her the ANZAC medal. Tia Ucich and Shani Amos were effective in creating scoring opportunities for the team by forcing turnovers, tallying a total 7 steals between the pair.
Laniesha Paddon was one of four players who scored in double digits for the Wolves, tallying 11 points and 8 rebounds for the game. Akim Lual brought the energy off the bench, pulling down 8 rebounds and securing 3 steals in 14 minutes of play.
The Wolves defeated the Slammers 112-47, to end the ANZAC round double-header.
The Wolfpack men get back to even on the road
After a defeat at home, the men looked forward to an opportunity to end the ANZAC round double-header on a win. CJ Turnage led the way in scoring and rebounding with a near triple double performance of 28-11-7 to earn himself game MVP honours.
The team had a contrasting performance on the boards from the night before, outrebounding the Slammers 57 to 36, including 10 rebounds from Bryan Michaels in a double-double outing, which helped to establish and hold a lead throughout the game.
Five players scored in double figures, with a combined 55 points from CJ Turnage and Quintin Dove. Mathiang Muo continues to shoot the lights out from beyond the arc, shooting 57% from range in the game.
The all-round performance from the Wolves helps to even the tally at 3-3 for the season. Our next game is this Sunday at HBF Arena, where the Wolfpack face the Goldfield Giants in round 5!
