2023 Ballarat Representative Program try outs

Yesterday Basketball Ballarat announced the Ballarat Representative Program (BRP) Head Coaches for the 2023 Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) Season and Basketball Victoria Country Events and is now calling for player registrations for upcoming tryouts.
The BRP is made up of Junior Ballarat Miners teams ranging from Under 12s through to U/18s in both girls and boys.
The Under 12 Ballarat Miners are purely a tournament-based program and will compete in many Country Victorian Tournaments including Colac, Bendigo and our own Ballarat Tournament with the major tournament being the Basketball Victoria Junior Country Championships which Team 1 will attend.
All other age groups will compete in the VJBL which plays on Friday nights across the state with each team 1 also attending their age group’s Basketball Victoria Junior Country Championships.
To be eligible to try out for the Junior Ballarat Miners individuals must reside in the Western Region of Victoria as outlined in the Ballarat Miners Junior Talent Pathway Zone. All players must also play within the Basketball Ballarat Association domestic competition or if you are new to the Basketball Ballarat you will be subject to a domestic club allocation process.
Age Groups:
- Under 12: Born in 2012 or 2013
- Under 14: Born in 2010 or 2011
- Under 16: Born in 2008 or 2009
- Under 18: Born in 2006 or 2007
All tryouts will be at Selkirk Stadium and all players wanting to be considered for a Ballarat Miners Junior Representative place must register via Play HQ before the cut-off date listed below and attend all sessions as listed and if required the 3rd session.
Registrations for Under 12’s will close at 12:00 noon on Wednesday 7th before tryouts begin at 6:00 pm whilst all other registrations will close at 12:00 pm on Thursday, September 29th before tryouts begin on Sunday, October 2nd.

- Under 12: Born in 2012 or 2013
- Wednesday, September 7th @ Selkirk Stadium 6:00pm – 7:30pm
- Sunday September 11th @ Selkirk Stadium 5:00pm – 6:30pm
- Sunday September 18th @ Selkirk Stadium 9:00am – 10:30am
Under 12 teams will be announced Tuesday September 20th with compulsory parent meeting being held Monday 10th October at 6:00 pm at Selkirk Stadium.
- Under 14: Born in 2010 or 2011
- Sunday October 2nd @ Selkirk Stadium 9:30am – 11:00am
- Tuesday, October 4th @ Minerdome 4:30pm – 6:00pm
- Sunday 9th October @ Selkirk Stadium 9:30am – 11:00am IF REQUIRED
- Under 16: Born in 2008 or 2009
- Sunday October 2nd @ Selkirk Stadium 11:00am – 12:30pm
- Thursday, October 6th @ Selkirk Stadium 4:30pm – 6:00pm
- Sunday 9th October @ Selkirk Stadium 11:00am – 12:30pm IF REQUIRED
- Under 18: Born in 2006 or 2007
- Sunday October 2nd @ Selkirk Stadium 12:30pm – 2:00pm
- Thursday, October 6th @ Selkirk Stadium 7:00pm – 9:00pm
- Sunday 9th October @ Selkirk Stadium 12:30pm – 2:00pm IF REQUIRED
All other Teams are to be announced Monday 10th October
Basketball Ballarat will then hold a Parent and player compulsory orientation meeting for all selected players on Monday 10th October at 6:00 pm at Selkirk Stadium.
At this Player Parent meeting, our club apparel sponsor Puma Team Wear will also be available and have samples to try items on and help with apparel ordering.
Eligibility Criteria
The Ballarat Miners Junior Talent Pathway Zone is across the Western Region of Victoria as outlined in the map below. Unfortunately, we can only accept new players from inside our talent pathway zone who must currently reside within this region.
All players are required to be playing in the Basketball Ballarat Association, exception to this rule are players travelling from extended distances who can apply for special consideration. New players will be subject to a Basketball Ballarat Association domestic club allocation process.
