In 1999, first year Hawks Head Coach Ken Harrington recruited two outstanding imports from Northern State University in South Dakota. 6'3 scoring machine Ryan Miller and 6'8 Forward Mark Rich. Miller and Rich complimented the young and developing Hawks players like Damien Smith, Jason Everstyn and Mark Eversteyn. The team improved as the year progressed and eventually fought their way in to the Finals.

In their first elimination final, the Hawks went to Shepparton and started the game terribly. The Hawks fell behind 22-3 before staging a remarkable comeback thanks to an amazing shooting performance from Mark Rich. The team then travelled to Warrnambool in the semi final and it took 2 overtimes to get a result. Steve Harris will be remembered for a hitting a three on the buzzer in regulation to send the game in to overtime. The corner quickfire shot was Harris only bucket for the game. It was then on to a Grand Final series against the Blackburn Vikings.

The best of 3 series saw the Hawks blow the Vikings away in Game 1 at Slater Reserve with Damien Smith and Ryan Miller torching the Vikings (combining for an amazing 67 points) but in Game 2 the Vikings hit back and forced a decider. Smith was controversially ejected from the game and the physical play caught the Hawks by surprise. The Hawks did not panic though, stayed focussed and grinded their way to a 12 point win in a sell out game 3 at the Marrondah Indoor Sports Centre (The Rings). Jason Eversteyn had a match winning impact blocking 7 shot while Mark Rich was MVP of the Finals series. The incomparable Ryan Miller was announced as MVP for the season averaging an incredible 39 points per game (48 minute game).

Steve Harris had a great season for the Hawks (including his buzzer in to the Grand Final at Warrnambool in front of 1200 fans at the tin house). Simon Lilley, Ben Quick, Steve Dawson, Nathan O'Doherty-Campbell and Bruce Blair provided plenty off the bench in a memorable and history making season.

Captains Phil Walsh and Damien Smith gladly accepted the Championship trophy which was the Clubs first ever senior State Championship. The Coaching staff was Ken Harrington, Duncan McFarlane, Brett Weegberg and the Team Manager was Barry Lilley.

The Hawks were stinging from a few Grand Final losses in 2009 and 2010 but with the inclusion of 2 great imports in Sam Belt and Skyler Bowlin and also former NBL talent Adrien Sturt, 2012 would be different.

The team started slowly whist they awaited the arrival of Bowlin from Europe but once he arrived the Hawks went to another level. Matt Snow and Willie Weimer were both playing well and young Shaun Clarke was making an impact. There was depth on the bench too with Max Sutton, Michael Stellar, Chris Flack, Zac Haig and Mark Whitehead but The X factor for the Hawks was the recruitment of veteran Luke Egan who always had an impact , especially in big games.

The Hawks faced the Eltham Wildcats in the Best of 3 Grand Final series. After an impressive win in Game one at Eltham, the Hawks closed the series with a hard fought win in game 2 at the rings. The 575 in attendance will forever remember the steal from Captain Willie Weimer in crunch time and then the three point dagger from Matt Snow to close out the Clubs second State Championship.

The Coaching Staff was Ken Harrington, Damien Smith, Michael Beer and the Tream Manager was Luke Brodie.

The Hawks shook off a disappointing loss in the 2013 Grand Final by knuckling down in the hope of getting a chance redemption against the Corio Bat Stingrays in 2014.

The Hawks had recruited Marcus Ruh from Saimt Leo's College and Bryan Dougher from Stony Brook but were not considered among the favourites to grab the title. There was plenty of talent though with Matt Snow, Willie Weimer, Luke Egan, Shaun Rawson, Max Sutton, Zac Haig and Chris Flack all playing well while Trevor Latham and Shaun Clarke proved to be the centre combination in the league. The team received a massive boost mid season with the return of Hawks junior Trent Zomer from Northern State University.

Destiny became a reality when the Hawks and the Stingrays again met in the Grand Final series. The Hawks were ready to pounce with Game one at home but with just a minute off the clock in overtime, star import Bryan Dougher crashed to the court, broke his shoulder and was ruled out of the series. The Hawks lost game one and it looked all over.

The following week the Hawks headed to Corio with the massive task of winning two games on the road in two days, without their leading scorer. Why others doubted, the Hawks believed and with Marcus Ruh playing his best ball of the season, the Hawks grabbed game two and silenced the sold out crowd.

Game three saw the Hawks jump out to an early lead with Zomer, Snow and Egan all having a massive impact. Clarke and Latham proved to be the big difference as they dominated the Stingrays at both ends. Ruh was again brilliant and Willie Weimer closed out the win at the foul line. The Hawks had shocked the State and the 6500 people watching the live stream from all over the World.

The Coaching staff was Ken Harrington, Mark Sutton, Damien Smith and the Team Managers were Luke Brodie and Anthony McLachlan.

After losing the Grand Final 2 years in a row in 2013 and 2014, 2015 was finally the year where the Lady Hawks fulfilled their destiny.

Coach Tim Mottin already had arguably the best player in the League with Amber Hegge and then added the hard working Lauren Oosdyke from the University of Northern Colorado. The two star imports were well supported by the reliable Jackie Vanderzaag, shooters Lisa Ewin, Tara Blair and Kate Spillane and of course defensively minded Emma Beddome. Sarah Yousef and Inez Lie handled the point guard duties while Shelley Mottin. Kate Shanahan, Regan Gardiner and Kate Ebzery added plenty to the Clubs most talented ever roster.

After an impressive regular season, the Lady Hawks again faced the Hume City Broncos in the Grand Final series. The Broncos were favourites after beating the Hawks during the regular season but the Hawks had two of the three games on our own floor.

In game one at Hume, the Hawks fell behind early and were unable to slow down Broncos star import Colleen Planeta. Game two was different though with the Lady Hawks shaking off some poor shooting early in the game before running out 7 point winners (65-58) in a defensive struggle.Hegge and Vanderzaag led the way.

Game 3 was always on the cards and the sold out crowd saw one of the best womens basketbaall game ever at the Rings. The Lady Hawks grabbed an early lead but with 3 minutes to go. the Broncos grabbed the lead and looked like winning another Championship. After a few missed foul shots by Hume, Sarah Yousef nailed a big three point bomb from the wing and then Amber Hegge calmly banked in a 12 foot jumper to close out the game. Emma Beddome and Vanderzaag were also important in the Clubs historic first ever senior women's Championship. The Coaching Staff was Tim Mottin, Peter Hynson, Michael Beer, Sarah Beer and the Team Manager was Sue Egan.

In 2015.the Hawks were red hot favourites to take out the Championship, but in the Preliminary Final were upset by McKinnon. This heartbreaking loss set up 2016 for a team that was determined for success.

The Hawks returned talented import Nate Champion for his second season and added hot shooting Tennessee born Logan Lyle to a team that was still led by Willie Weimer, Matt Snow. Trevor Latham. Max Sutton and Shaun Clarke. Coach Ken Harrington had also added some class with Matthew Fennell and Nathan Truman. Michael Solty was promoted from the Youth team and Scott Cuffe and Dan Tomada were added in pre season.

There was not going to be a repeat of 2015 as the Hawks faced an old rival in the Grand Final, the Corio Bay Stingrays. Game one was at the Rings and the Hawks made quick work of the Rays with Champion, Lyle, Fennell, Clarke and Snow all playing well in the 25 point demolition.

To win the Championship though, the Hawks would have to do it at Corio and the plan was to do it in 2 (not in 3 games). Right from the tip off in game 2 the Hawks were on fire. A blistering 20-3 opening 5 minutes set up the Hawks to complete the sweep, just as they had planned. Clarke, Fennell, Latham, Champion and Lyle all could not miss and Snow made sure the Hawks were getting great looks at the basket. The Rays fought back late in the game but the Hawks closed it out from the foul line led by Weimer who closed out his historic 384 game Hawks career. The final margin was 8. (101-93).

The Coaching staff was Ken Harrington, Mark Sutton, Damein Smith, the Team Manager was Luke Brodie and Physio Kieran Thoms.

On the back on a sucessful 2016, the Hawks had a target on their back in 2017. The team looked a little different with the addition of two new imports in Jacob Gibson (Harding University), Mike McCahey (St Anselm) and also Stefan Osborne joined the Hawks after playing College Basketball at Coker University. Tim Martin came in to add to the big man stocks. Youth League star Matthew Roberts was promoted in to the senior team.

This season the Hawks had a chance to win the Championship on their own court and faced local rivals, the Waverley Falcons. In game one at Waverley, the Hawks controlled the game for 37 minutes before a late rally from the Falcons pulled them to within 6 with a minute remaining. Under pressure Shaun Clarke went in to the post and spun in to the middle to settle the Hawks who run out 10 point winners (103-93).

In game 2 the Hawks the Hawks fell behind early as the Falcons were prepared to throw everything in to forcing a game 3. Gradually the Hawks battled their way back in to the game with Mike McCahey and in particular Matt Snow leading the way. A big 3 late in the fourth quarter by Jacob Gibson put the Hawks in front but the Falcons would not go away. With the Hawks a point in front and 13 seconds left, Snow went to the foul lne and nailed 1 out of 2 but the Hawks forced a tough shot and gathered the recound to close out back 2 back Championships.Mike McCahey won the Grand Final MVP while Matt Snow will be remembered for a near triple double with 14 points. 13 assists and 7 rebounds. Latham, Truman and Fennell were all massive in the 2 point win (101-99).

The Coaching staff was Ken Harrington. Damien Smith, Michael Beer, Willie Weimer and the Team Manager was Luke Brodie.

This Hawks team was already the team of the decade but a chance to pull off a history making 3- peat was now on the table. Jacob Gibson returned and was joined by long range bomber Scottie Stone from St.Cloud State University in Minnesota. Michael Solty returned from missing all of  2017 with an ACL injury.

The Eltham Wildcats had risen to now become the Hawks big challenger and these teams met in a memorable Grand Final series but the Hawks had the advantage of Games 2 and 3 at home.

Game one at Eltham was soldout in 15 minutes and the Eltham crowd were chanting "Beat ringwood" early in the game. This did not last long as Matt Snow, Shaun Clarke  and Jacob Gibson (25 points) quickly put the Hawks in front. The game was close early in the 3rd quarter but with Fennell (26 points and 10 rebounds) and Trevor Latham (14 points 10 rebounds and 2 blocks) dominating, the game became a blow out. Matt Snow played a great game despite playing through an injury that looked like it would keep him out of the game. The final score was 99-71.

Game two sold out in 12 minutes and may be one of the most bizarre finals in Big V history as fouls became the story. During the second quarter the Hawks had 8 players with a minimum of 2 fouls as the Hawks tried to remain in the game. As 3 key players fouled out, the Hawks fell behind and the Wildcats ran away for a 19 point win (96-77). The Hawks were called for 33 fouls to the Wildcats 20 and now Game 3 would be required. Gibson, Stone and Fennell were the Hawks best.

After an evening of soul searching the Hawks came out in game 3 and grabbed an early lead to put pressure back on the wildcats. Matt Fennell (20 points and 17 rebounds) was leading the way and looked like tearing the game apart. Scottie Stone caught fire from the perimeter from midway through the first quarter and the Wildcats did not have an answer. Stone hit 7/10 from 3 and finished the game with 32 points. Clarke, Gibson, Snow and Latham all played well as the Hawks kept the Wildcats at arms length for a 12 point win and a history making 3-peat. Matt Fennell was fittingly awarded the Grand Final MVP.

Coaching staff was Ken Harrington, Damien Smith and Willie Weimer and the Team Manager was Luke Brodie.

2022 Women Champ Banner22

The 2022 Ringwood Hawks Women's team took Ringwood Basketball to a stage it had never been before by winning the 2022 NBL1 South Grand Final and then going all the way to the National Championship game.

Coach Tim Mottin and Assistants Jeremy O'Toole and Peter Hynson put together a terrific group of talent lead by WNBL star Marena Whittle and veteran NZ International Toni Farnworth. For the first time in many years, the Hawks did not featue an American import but rather introduced the "Euro Duo" to the league. Digna Strautmane (Latvia) and Marta Hermida (Spain) joined the team and fitted in like a hand in a glove. Captain Danni Allen (nee Bone) returned to lead the team while and Bella Niven-Brown and Zoe Jenkins were recruited to give them team some scoring off the bench. The unsung hero of the group may have been Jacqui Trotto who played both ends of the court and had an outstanding season. Youth girls Jenna Anderson, Kiahna Liddy, Tayah Kelly and Rebecca Horvat filled out the teams roster. Allyson Nicholls was the teams Team Manager.

It was not an easy journey for the Hawks who beat a very talented Mt.Gambier in their first Final at the Rings and then had to host the Launceston Tornadoes who featured Players like Opals Marianna Tolo and Kelsey Griffin plus MVP favourite Keeley Froling. Despite being underdogs, the Hawks played incredible team basketball and sent the Torns back to Tasmania to start their off season.

It did not get any easier in the Grand Final which was played at the State Basketball Centre in front of 1500 fans. The Bendigo Braves team looked very much like the team they have in the WNBL but the Hawks again just played a better brand of Basketball and closed out a hard earned Championship. Marena Whittle was voted as Grand Final MVP.

The following weekend the Hawks represented the NBL1 South in the National Finals. In Game one the Hawks demolished Albury Wodonga and then had another very easy win over the West Adelaide Bearcats which saw them play in the National Championship game. Unfortunately the Hawks just ran out of gas and could not finish this amazing season the way it deserved falling to Western Australia's Warwick Senators in another close game. Whittle was again the star and was voted to teh tournament All-Star 5 team. History was well and truly made in 2022 by this group of Hawks.
